Description
Data Records
The data in this occurrence resource has been published as a Darwin Core Archive (DwC-A), which is a standardized format for sharing biodiversity data as a set of one or more data tables. The core data table contains 1,818 records.
This IPT archives the data and thus serves as the data repository. The data and resource metadata are available for download in the downloads section. The versions table lists other versions of the resource that have been made publicly available and allows tracking changes made to the resource over time.
Versions
The table below shows only published versions of the resource that are publicly accessible.

Geographic Coverage
The dataset primarily covers Taoyuan City in northern Taiwan, which is the main service area of the TYWB Wildlife Rehabilitation Clinic. Most animals in the dataset were originally found within Taoyuan City. A small number of records are from other parts of Taiwan, as animals found outside Taoyuan were occasionally brought to the clinic by members of the public.

Project Data
This project was commissioned by the Department of Agriculture, Taoyuan City Government, to analyze and organize wildlife rescue records and conduct ecological education and outreach activities. As part of the project, wildlife rescue records are reviewed and standardized for biodiversity data publication through TaiBIF IPT and subsequent integration into the Taiwan Biodiversity Information Alliance (TBIA).

| Funding | This project was carried out under a professional service contract commissioned by the Department of Agriculture, Taoyuan City Government. |
| Study Area Description | The project primarily covers Taoyuan City in northern Taiwan. A small number of rescue records may originate from other parts of Taiwan when animals found outside Taoyuan are brought to the clinic by members of the public. |
| Design Description | The occurrence records in this dataset originate from wildlife rescue cases admitted to and documented by the TYWB Wildlife Rehabilitation Clinic, operated by the Wild Bird Society of Taoyuan. These cases were handled under a separate wildlife case response and handling service commissioned by the Department of Agriculture, Taoyuan City Government. The resulting records were subsequently reviewed, organized, and standardized under this project for biodiversity data publication. Because the records were generated through wildlife rescue activities rather than a standardized biodiversity survey, they should be interpreted as opportunistic occurrence data. |

Sampling Methods
The source data consist of individual medical records of wild animals treated at the TYWB Wildlife Rehabilitation Clinic. Each original record represents one animal and is managed using an internal rescue case number. The records contain information on the animal’s taxon, finding date, finding location, and other case-related information. Animals enter the rescue system through reports, transfers, or direct delivery by members of the public, government agencies, and other organizations. The records accumulate through routine wildlife rescue activities, without fixed sampling sites, survey intervals, or standardized sampling effort.
| Study Extent | This dataset covers wildlife found in 2026 and subsequently admitted to the TYWB Wildlife Rehabilitation Clinic. Most records originate from Taoyuan City, the clinic’s primary service area, with a small number of cases from other parts of Taiwan. The dataset includes birds, mammals, reptiles, and amphibians. |
|---|---|
| Quality Control | Records were reviewed for consistency in taxonomic, temporal, geographic, and occurrence information before publication. Taxonomic names and identifiers were standardized, and dates, locality information, coordinates, and individual counts were checked for inconsistencies. When the original finding location could not be determined, transfer or handover locations were not used as occurrence locations. Records representing multiple animals found together in the same event were consolidated into a single occurrence record, with the number of animals recorded in individualCount. |
Method step description:
- Individual rescue records were retrospectively reviewed and reorganized into occurrence-level records. The original finding date, location, taxon, and related case information were used to determine whether individual animals belonged to the same finding event. Animals originating from the same finding event were combined into a single occurrence record, and the number of animals was recorded in individualCount. A new stable occurrenceID was assigned to each reconstructed finding event. These identifiers were created during preparation of this dataset and are separate from the clinic’s internal rescue case numbers, which are not included in the published occurrence dataset. Taxonomic, temporal, and geographic information was then standardized and mapped to Darwin Core terms for publication through TaiBIF IPT.
