Data Records

The data in this occurrence resource has been published as a Darwin Core Archive (DwC-A), which is a standardized format for sharing biodiversity data as a set of one or more data tables. The core data table contains 228 records.

This IPT archives the data and thus serves as the data repository. The data and resource metadata are available for download in the downloads section. The versions table lists other versions of the resource that have been made publicly available and allows tracking changes made to the resource over time.

Study Area Description The whole coast of Vietnam

The personnel involved in the project:

Sampling Methods

The data mining process was conducted manually using Google search and in-website search tools, using different search terms that represent the cetacean and stranding phenomenon. Searchings were conducted in Vietnamese.

Study Extent All cetacean stranding cases reported in media (newspapers, online news, social media such as Facebook and Youtube) in Vietnam were documented.
Quality Control Searching was performed 02 times to minimise missing information. Each case was manually examined and compared with previously recorded cases to minimise duplicates.

Method step description:

  1. Step 1: different search terms that represent the cetacean and stranding phenomenon were constructed in the Vietnamese language Step 2: all search terms were input into Google and three major social media platforms in Vietnam (Facebook, Youtube and Zalo). Step 3: all returned results were examined and verified Step 4: unique and confirmed cases of cetacean stranding were documented Step 5: data from each cases were extracted from original media
