Description

From 2009 to 2020, there was a comprehensive butterfly census conducted across various regions in Taiwan, led by voluntary citizen scientists. The survey primarily focused on the middle part of Taiwan and involved monthly investigations on a yearly basis. The survey methodology employed transect line surveys, covering a total of 20 designated sampling sites.

Data Records

The data in this sampling event resource has been published as a Darwin Core Archive (DwC-A), which is a standardized format for sharing biodiversity data as a set of one or more data tables. The core data table contains 433 records.

1 extension data tables also exist. An extension record supplies extra information about a core record. The number of records in each extension data table is illustrated below.

Event (core)

This IPT archives the data and thus serves as the data repository. The data and resource metadata are available for download in the downloads section. The versions table lists other versions of the resource that have been made publicly available and allows tracking changes made to the resource over time.

Sampling Methods

The transect line survey method involves visually observing butterflies within a 5-meter radius and capturing individuals using an insect net to confirm their species.

The survey was conducted on a monthly basis, with a yearly frequency, utilizing 20 designated transect lines.
In addition to visual recording, experienced investigators conducted the survey by capturing individuals using an insect net and confirming the species.

Method step description:

The survey involved a continuous and steady pace of visually observing butterfly species within a 5-meter radius, supplemented by using an insect net to capture and confirm the identified species.
The survey was conducted at a basic frequency of once a month, on an annual basis.
