Descripción

The survey data of cephalopods was obtained in the beam trawl survey from 2007 to 2021. The survey was conducted by the R/V "Ocean Researcher III" and the R/V "New Ocean Researcher III". All the samples were collected by the beam trawl, with the width 6 m, body length 8 m, body mesh 4.5 cm, and cod end mesh 2.5 cm, and each trawling was conducted at 2 knots/hr for 30 minutes. Most of the sampling sites were located along the western coast of Taiwan, while some sites were located in the offshore zones (e.g., Penghu Channel, Changyun Rise).

Métodos de muestreo

The beam trawl (width 6 m, body length 8 m, body mesh 4.5 cm, and cod end mesh 2.5 cm) onboard the R/V "Ocean Researcher III" and the R/V "New Ocean Researcher III" was used for the survey. Each trawling was conducted as 2 knots/hr of speed and 30 minutes, and the sweeping area was about 11,112 square meters. The coordinates recorded in the dataset for trawling were the original sites of the trawling starting.

Área de Estudio The study sites were located along the coastal waters off western Taiwan, including some offshore sites, such as Penghu Channel and Changyun Rise. There were total 13 sites from north to south: Maoli, Wuchi, Changyun Rise, Wangong, Taihsi, Cigu, Penghu Channel, Jiading, Zuoying, Lingyuan, Dapeng, Linbian, Fangliao. The coordinates of these sites covered between 119.49-120.84°E and 22.17-24.70°N.
Control de Calidad All cephalopod samples were put in the -20°C freezer on board immediately after finishing the trawling, and soon transfered to the freezer in lab to prevent the samples spoiling. To make sure the accuracy of the identification, we complied with the guideline of the cephalopod taxonomy with these 2 publications: Lu & Chung (2017) "Guide to the Cephalopod of Taiwan" and Okutani (2015) "Cuttlefishes and Squids of the World". Afterwards, the data were validated again by matching them against Catalogue of Life in Taiwan (TAICOL), World Register of Marine Specie (WoRMS), etc.

Descripción de la metodología paso a paso:

  1. 1. Data collection: described as the column of "Sampling Description" 2.Sample identification: the professional would identify the cephalopod samples referring to 2 publications: Lu & Chung (2017) "Guide to The Cephalopod of Taiwan" and Okutani (2015) "Cuttlefishes and Squids of the World". After finishing the identification, all information would be recorded on the log book, such as species name, body length, state of specimen, etc. 3. Data processing and preserving: All the information would be keyed in and saved as excel files. After validating all data, the dataset would be uploaded on the GBIF website.
