<para>This dataset contains wildlife occurrence records for animals found in 2026 and admitted to the TYWB Wildlife Rehabilitation Clinic, operated by the Wild Bird Society of Taoyuan (TYWB). For most records, the location refers to the place where the animal was originally found. In a small number of cases, the original finding location was unknown or not recorded; some source records contained only a transfer location, which was not treated as the occurrence location. When several animals were found in the same finding event, they are represented by a single occurrence record, with the number of animals recorded in individualCount. Because the data come from wildlife rescue cases rather than standardized surveys, they should be interpreted as opportunistic occurrence data.</para>

<purpose><para>The purpose of this dataset is to make wildlife occurrence information recorded through wildlife rescue cases openly available in a standardized format for biodiversity research, conservation, and data integration.</para></purpose>
<introduction><para>Wildlife rescue records capture a distinct dimension of biodiversity information: where, when, and under what circumstances wild animals are found in distress and enter the rescue system. Although these records are not produced through standardized surveys, their accumulation over time can reveal recurring spatial and temporal patterns of wildlife risk that are difficult to see from individual cases alone. The TYWB Wildlife Rehabilitation Clinic, operated by the Wild Bird Society of Taoyuan, receives wildlife rescue cases primarily from Taoyuan City. This dataset publishes the original finding information associated with animals found in 2026 as standardized occurrence records, making these data openly available for biodiversity research, conservation, wildlife management, and long-term surveillance of wildlife risks and health.</para></introduction>
<gettingStarted><para>This dataset is structured as Darwin Core occurrence records. Each row represents one original wildlife finding event. If several animals were found together in the same event, they are grouped into one record and the total number of animals is given in individualCount. Each record includes an occurrence identifier, record type, occurrence status, finding date, and number of individuals. Taxonomic information includes common and scientific names, a taxon identifier, taxon rank, and classification from kingdom to genus, with the specific epithet provided where applicable. Geographic information includes country, administrative area, municipality, locality, coordinates, geodetic datum, and coordinate precision where available. Habitat information is also provided when recorded.</para></gettingStarted>
<acknowledgements><para>The wildlife rescue and rehabilitation activities underlying this dataset were carried out under a service contract commissioned by the Department of Agriculture, Taoyuan City Government. We also acknowledge the staff and volunteers of the TYWB Wildlife Rehabilitation Clinic who contributed to wildlife rescue, case documentation, and record keeping.</para></acknowledgements>

<para>Individual rescue records were retrospectively reviewed and reorganized into occurrence-level records. The original finding date, location, taxon, and related case information were used to determine whether individual animals belonged to the same finding event. Animals originating from the same finding event were combined into a single occurrence record, and the number of animals was recorded in individualCount.

A new stable occurrenceID was assigned to each reconstructed finding event. These identifiers were created during preparation of this dataset and are separate from the clinic’s internal rescue case numbers, which are not included in the published occurrence dataset. Taxonomic, temporal, and geographic information was then standardized and mapped to Darwin Core terms for publication through TaiBIF IPT.</para>
